Things we do in Guam...

Here are some things we have been doing in Guam in the last few weeks.  We miss all of our friends and family, but remain distracted as we...

Pretend we are still on our honeymoon and hang out at resorts.

Dance with locals at the Chomorro Village on Wednesday nights.

Or run after people with funny matching outfits at the Chomorro Village.

Scuba Dive & chase fish!

Visit historical sites for picnics!

Boonie Stomp!

Every Saturday a group from the community gets together to "stomp through the boonies" or hike through the rough terrain that is Guam!  Most often they blaze their own trail and would be better off with a machete or something to cut down that sword grass.  I definitely left with some scratches & bruises.

But the views were worth it!

Some of the older guys that organize the hike, have been doing it for over 20 years!  They still had to figure out what the best way down to the water was...

 Check out this swimming hole!

Now, this is why we came to Guam :)  What a beautiful place!

Roadtrip around the island!

We have a car and Alex has a day off...what should we do???  hmmm...roadtrip!
We started out following these military guys on mopeds.  They had the same idea we had today...cruise around and take in the views!

We pulled over to enjoy different beaches along the way...

Alex stands where a stone wall once circled.  It has now been corrupted by an earthquake, tsunami or whatever natural disaster struck this little island before.  Below is Alex contemplating, "what really happened here?"

This lady looks as confused and upset as we were...

But if you look closer, you may realize that what she really wants is a carrot.

After driving a little more, we stopped at another beach where Alex pulled out his kiteboarding trainer kite.

Alex may have fallen in the water a couple times, but he was having a blast doing it!  Hopefully this will help him kite surf next week.

What a beautiful day!!!

Snorkeling in Our Backyard!

After successfully moving into our apartment to end our first free day we decided to snorkel, in our backyard.  Our backyard happens to be this...

So we walked down the stairs and hopped into the water... which is a chilly 80 degrees this time of year.  Sarah says WOW to this blue starfish...

We also saw a three stripe pennant fish which was pretty sweet.  In this first picture it is looking right at me with its mouth open, pretty amazing.

And of course, we finished it off with an amazing sunset.  Man, this Guam place is amazing.

Stay tuned for the next Alex and Sarah V adventure!

Arrival in Guam - New Apartment, New Car, New Job, Whoa.

Hello friends & family:)  This is our first post from Guam and we have already done so much!
We spent the first week just running around setting up our new life here.  We found an amazing apartment complex on the beach.  It was partially furnished & included all utilities, which made things a lot easier for us.

It came equipped with a beautiful view & sunset!  I can't believe this is our backyard...

Next on the agenda, was to obtain some form of transportation.  After debating between pogo sticks, segways, or leasing a vehicle--we decided that actually buying a car was the way to go.   This island is a lot bigger than we at first imagined it to be.

We got a good deal on a used Jeep Liberty, as Alex used his negotiation skills to talk the price down.  (Univ of I business skills coming into play here--thanks Dad!)

Then we immediately went and bought a bed!  The bed was tied so tight to the top, we decided we might have to sleep up there tonight...

Among all of the running around town, Alex had started his pharmacist job at Kmart right away.  It may seem like a normal Kmart at first glance, but it is one of the busiest in the world!  It's open 24/7 and is always full of people!

The picture below was taken inside of Kmart at 9:00pm on a Wednesday night.  Wow!!!  You would never know that there is a slow-paced island life taking place right outside of these walls... Hopefully that just means Alex's work days will fly by, right??

And Kmart has a special section for Spam.  Don't worry there is plenty of Island flavor for everyone!

Stay tuned for the next Alex and Sarah V adventure!
